MAYA LAWRENCE

M O R O C C O

“Her soul was too deep to explore by those who always swam in the shallow end”
— A.J. Lawless

Maya Lawrence is a theatre major at the illustrious Spelman College and has had the luxury of traveling to both Morocco and Cuba! Maya is artistic and has some amazing pictures to offer our viewers. Please check out Maya's story below!!

Mausoleum of Mohammad V

Everyone will learn something different, when asked what Maya took away from her experience she replied "From Morocco I discovered peace, and civilization based on faith, humanity despite difference. From Cuba I gathered the spirit of independence and hustle, while also gathering appreciation of a lifestyle of simplicity".

“Morocco was my favorite from the two”

Adventure always lies ahead when in another country. Maya spent time "Hiking the High Atlas Mountains in Ourika, Morocco" Which not only was an awesome experience but resulted in amazing pictures. "During the hike we travelled through a village belonging to the indigenous people, and it was as if I travelled through time into the town of a biblical story". (Lawrence) Being able to experience people within the indigenous culture is a treasure. Many people don't realize the life they have, looking into another community you truly learn to appreciate not only your own culture, but other's as well.

Maya had this to say for new travelers "Learn as much about the people and culture that you are inserting yourself into, before traveling. It will help you communicate easier despite the language barrier if there is one. Understand that you are choosing to enter into someone else's way of life, so be open minded, respectful, and willing to go with the flow, otherwise you cheat yourself out of the experience".
